01 What is Med Mend
Med Mend is an independent global platform giving patients direct access to credentialled medical specialists from leading medical institutions around the world. We exist to support informed, evidence-based healthcare decision-making wherever you are and wherever the right expertise happens to be.
02 What is a second medical opinion?
A second medical opinion is an independent, evidence-based review of your case by a specialist who has no involvement in your existing care. It is not a challenge to your doctor. It is a way of gathering additional expert perspective before making an important health decision. Your experience and concerns as a patient are central to the process, and many patients find it brings clarity, reassurance or new options they had not previously considered.
03 Who is Med Mend for?
Med Mend is for anyone facing a complex, uncertain or high-stakes health decision. This includes patients who have received a diagnosis they want confirmed, those considering a major procedure or treatment, people who feel their concerns have not been fully heard and carers seeking guidance on behalf of a family member.
04 Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No referral is required. You can access Med Mend directly and submit your case at any time. We do, however, encourage you to keep your treating doctor informed and to share your second opinion report with them once you receive it. Their knowledge of your broader health history and local healthcare context remains an important part of your overall care.
How It Works
01 How does the process work?
You submit your case through the Med Mend platform including your medical history, any existing reports, imaging, pathology results and your specific questions. You then browse our panel of credentialled specialists and choose the one whose expertise and background best fits your case. The specialist you select reviews your materials independently and delivers a written second opinion report through the platform.
02 What documents should I submit?
Submit as much relevant clinical information as you have available. This may include specialist letters and clinical reports, imaging results (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound), pathology and laboratory results, your medication list and any other correspondence from your treating team. You do not need to have everything. The specialist will work with whatever you are able to provide and will note any gaps in their review.
03 How long does it take?
Most opinions are delivered within three to five business days of a complete submission being received. Turnaround times may vary depending on the complexity of the case and specialist availability. We will keep you informed throughout the process.
04 How will I receive my opinion?
Med Mend offers two ways to receive your second opinion. You can choose a written report delivered through the platform, structured, clearly written and designed to be understood by both you and your treating doctor, or a video consultation with the specialist where you can discuss your case directly and ask questions in real time. You select which format suits you best when submitting your case.

01 Who are the specialists on Med Mend?
Med Mend provides access to credentialled medical specialists from leading medical institutions worldwide across a wide range of clinical disciplines. All specialists are registered medical practitioners with recognised qualifications and relevant subspecialty experience. They are independent practitioners who provide evidence-based clinical opinions through the platform.
02 How do I choose a specialist?
You browse our panel of specialists directly and choose the one whose expertise, background and institution best fits your case. You are in control of who reviews your case.
03 Does the specialist have access to my full submission?
Yes. The specialist you select will have access to all clinical information and documents you have submitted as part of your case. They will review your materials and respond to your specific questions in their written opinion.
The Report
01 What will the report include?
The report includes a summary of your case as the specialist understands it, an independent evidence-based clinical opinion on your diagnosis and treatment, responses to your specific questions and, where relevant, commentary on alternative options or further investigations. It also includes a scope of review noting which documents were considered and any limitations on the opinion.
02 Is this a diagnosis?
No. A Med Mend second opinion is an independent advisory opinion. It is not a formal diagnosis, prescription or treatment plan and it does not establish a clinical relationship with the reviewing specialist. It is intended to inform your decision-making and is not a replacement for the care of your treating doctor.
03 Will the specialist contact me directly?
If you select a video consultation, you will speak directly with the specialist at a scheduled time. If you select a written report, the opinion is delivered through the Med Mend platform and does not include a live session with the specialist.
Practical Questions
01 Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. Your personal and health information is handled in strict confidence in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Australian Privacy Principles. Your information is used solely for the purpose of facilitating your second opinion and is not shared beyond what is necessary to deliver the service. Specialists are bound by professional confidentiality obligations and are not permitted to use your information for any other purpose.
02 Is Med Mend available in my country?
Med Mend is an international platform and we accept submissions from patients in most countries. Please note that the specialist’s opinion is advisory in nature and may not account for local healthcare system constraints, medication availability or regulatory requirements in your country. We recommend discussing the opinion with your local treating doctor.
03 How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the nature of the review and the service selected. Please visit our Pricing page for current information or contact us directly if you have questions about what is included.
04 Will this replace my treating doctor?
No. Med Mend is not a replacement for your existing care. The reviewing specialist assumes no ongoing duty of care, follow-up responsibility or prescribing obligation and we strongly encourage you to share the report with your local or treating doctor so they can interpret it in the context of your broader healthcare.
05 What if I am not satisfied with my opinion?
If you have concerns about your report or feel your case was not adequately addressed, please contact us. We take quality and clinical governance seriously and will review any concerns raised.
06 Can a carer or family member submit on behalf of a patient?
Yes. Carers, family members and authorised representatives may submit a case on behalf of a patient, provided appropriate consent or authority is in place. Please refer to our Terms of Service for further information on submitting on behalf of another person.
